Namrata Kumar is an Indian artist whose practice explores the relationships between colour, geometry, perception, and the intangible forces that shape human experience.

Originally trained in Visual Communication Design at Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore, she spent several years working as a graphic designer and illustrator before transitioning into a full-time artistic practice.

At the core of Kumar's practice is a sustained engagement with colour as both material and phenomenon. She is interested in colour's capacity to operate beyond representation, acting instead as a carrier of emotion and atmosphere. Through carefully calibrated palettes and subtle chromatic relationships, she investigates how colour can shape perception, alter mood, and create spaces for reflection. Her work often emerges from an intuitive and experimental process, allowing colour itself to become a means of thinking and discovery.

Working across painting and ceramics, Kumar develops visual languages that inhabit the space between the sensorial and the contemplative, between orderly and chaotic. Geometry functions as a recurring theme within her practice - not as a rigid system of order, but as a living structure through which relationships and patterns can unfold. These formal investigations draw upon her interest in natural systems and the hidden structures that organise both the material and immaterial worlds.

Material experimentation plays an important role in her process. Many works originate through investigations with paper, a medium she is drawn to for its lightness, immediacy, and responsiveness. This sensitivity to light reflects a broader interest in perception itself - how we encounter, interpret, and construct our experience of the world.

Underlying Namratas practice is an ongoing inquiry into the relationship between the visible and the invisible. Her work seeks to give form to forces that are difficult to grasp directly: energy, atmosphere, and the sense of mystery that exists beyond rational understanding. Drawing from both personal intuition and broader philosophical and spiritual traditions, she creates works that invite contemplation and attentiveness. Through colour, form, and material presence, her practice offers spaces in which viewers can pause, reflect, and engage with dimensions of experience that lie between the physical and the metaphysical.

Namrata currently lives and works between India and the United Kingdom.
